Experienced Structural Engineer (6 – 10 years of experience)

Perry & Associates is a structural engineering firm located in downtown Chicago. We provide structural and forensic engineering services for a wide variety of clients including architects, building management companies, private businesses and individuals.
About the Position
We are seeking structural engineers with experience in design, investigation, analysis, and evaluation of building structures, particularly existing building structures. As a Structural Engineer, you will work under the direct supervision of senior engineers to deliver projects including the design and analysis of new and existing building structures. Your role will include project management duties such as the development of scopes and proposal, direct interaction and coordination with clients, management of the overall schedule and design intent, and delegation of tasks to junior staff. Typical projects will include a variety of modern and historic materials such as concrete, steel, wood, and masonry structural systems. Additional duties include field investigations to document existing conditions, construction site observations and documentation, and drafting of structural plans and details.
Duties and Responsibilities
Develop and detail project designs for new and existing building structures
Perform calculations for new and existing structural building elements, including gravity and lateral system elements
Project management for small to medium-size projects including direct interaction and coordination with clients and other design professionals
Author technical reports and project correspondence
Develop project scopes and proposals based on client requests
Assist in the mentorship of junior engineering staff
Perform local field investigations to document existing conditions and ongoing construction projects
Review and interpret technical documents and designs
Review and evaluate building codes and specifications to inform designs and analyses
Assist in the development of firm standards
What You’ll Need
BS or MS in civil/structural engineering
6 – 10 years of related structural engineering experience. Experience with existing building structures and project management is preferred.
Willingness to adapt to new project types and tasks
Able to perform physical field work, including climbing ladders, performing visual observations from afar/rooftops/scaffolding, using precision instruments, etc.
Current U.S. driver’s license (required)
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Experience mentoring and training junior staff
Proficiency with AutoCAD
Proficiency with structural analysis software such as RISA-3D
Proficiency with material codes including ACI 318, AISC 360, NDS, etc.
Actively pursuing or licensed as a P.E. and/or S.E.
Legal ability to work in the United States
